Actions Battlefield 4 take place several years after the previous part. The threat of World War III once again loomed over the world. The threat came from China, where Admiral Cheng came to power during a coup d'etat. The usurper plans to unite with the Russian authorities and attack the States. The main character is Daniel Recker, a member of the elite Gravedigger squad. The plot takes place during a mission to Baku to find and interrogate a Russian military man. After the failure of the operation, the intelligence officers still obtain information, where they learn about Cheng’s plans. In some situations, the player will have to make a choice that affects the ending, there are 3 of them in the game.

The game features new weapons and a unique storyline. Missions in the game represent various tasks: clearing the territory, escorting a VIP person, eliminating a target, car chase, and so on. The main feature of the game is the possibility of multiplayer. Players are divided into two teams and capture enemy points. Many maps and weapons that were encountered in the company mode are available for battles. Players also have access to vehicles in which they can not only move around the map, but also neutralize enemies.
