Events Berserker take place in ancient Viking times, when famous sagas and legends had not even been written yet. The protagonist is Asbjorn, a warrior trying to protect his loved ones and his home. There is little realism in this journey. But there is more than enough authenticity from the mythological side. The environment, opponents and even the abilities of the main character are all inspired by the culture of the ancient North. In addition, the narrative introduces the player to important characters, gods and creatures of classical Nordic mythology.

In terms of gameplay, Berserker is a classic 2D action side-scroller. The protagonist moves left and right along long locations, cutting up opponents along the way. There are no separate jumping stages as such at the levels. There is also no leveling up or equipment – the project is too short for such mechanics. But the hero from the start has several combat skills, as well as the ability to activate the rune of rage and becomes a berserker himself. In this state, Asbjorn's damage increases and his susceptibility to damage decreases.

Puzzles and a second character are designed to dilute the gameplay. The former are found both at levels and between them. However, there is also little variety in them, because they are all variations on the theme of collecting rune patterns by twisting puzzle pieces. The second controlled character appears approximately halfway through the passage. He becomes a shaman girl with her own set of skills and moves.
