Blade and Soul is a multiplayer online game with classic gameplay for its genre. The gameplay begins with choosing a server and creating a hero. There are several classes available to start with, each of which has its own abilities, upgradeable skill tree and other features. Some of them begin their journey at different points in the game space, receiving different starting tasks and weapons.

The first missions in Blade & Soul focus on teaching the user basic mechanics, such as moving around the world, fighting, using abilities, leveling up skills, creating items and much more. There are 4 races available for selection: Shen, Wang, Lin and Feng. There are 13 character classes: Ax Master, Summoner, Assassin, Warlock, Shooter, Archer and several others. They use their own signature weapons and receive combat bonuses for certain equipment.

The open world is filled with enemies controlled by artificial intelligence. Upon reaching a high level, the gamer will have the opportunity to participate in battles with live players. Users are able to team up with each other to fight powerful bosses and earn rare rewards. In cities you can trade, communicate with minor characters and receive quests, craft items or create consumables.
