Chernobylite – survival horror with multiple elements of role-playing adventure and construction simulator. The gamer is provided with a huge map for free exploration; it is filled with all kinds of content, from bandit or monster camps that need to be cleared to anomalous zones with valuable loot. The setting is the Chernobyl exclusion zone with an admixture of fantasy, which is reflected in the presence of mutants and otherworldly phenomena affecting the passage of time. The graphic component turned out to be at the proper level due to the fact that the creators personally visited Pripyat and its environs and took many photographs in order to transfer the landscapes with maximum accuracy.

The storyline is quite nonlinear; the developers were able to achieve this by allowing the user to choose lines in dialogue with most of the characters. The gamer gets the role of one of the employees of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, who was able to survive after a terrible disaster that left its mark on all earthly creatures. The protagonist begins an investigation into the disappearance of his beloved girl named Tatyana, and in parallel with this, other events develop.

The gameplay requires the user to assemble his own team of characters under the control of artificial intelligence. For the detachment to function, it is necessary to set up a camp, find a source of food, create a sufficient number of means of defense and provide medicines for diseases, radiation and injuries. The arsenal of weapons that the main character can use and give to his companions is quite wide – a machete, a knife, a pistol, a shotgun, a sawn-off shotgun, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, several rifles, and so on.
