Events Conflict: Vietnam takes place in 1968. The main character is a soldier of the US 101st Airborne Division, Harold Keller. He barely graduated from university, but he had already become a field medic and found himself in the thick of the Vietnam War. The plot takes him from the Tet Offensive to the Hue Citadel over the course of 14 missions. As Harold progresses, he gains partners, finds himself behind the Viet Cong lines, and then, together with his colleagues, simply tries to survive without saving the world and without claiming the title of hero of the nation.

Even in terms of plot, Conflict: The Vietnam War is noticeably different from previous parts of the series. Philosophical reasoning and assessment of the warring parties faded into the background, as did the heroic deeds of the protagonists. The focus is on the struggle for the lives of ordinary soldiers who have barely sniffed gunpowder during their short service. As for the gameplay, its main core remains unchanged. The player still has up to 4 warriors at his disposal, between whom he can freely switch or give simple commands to them. Often the goals of missions are clearing camps, avoiding ambushes and traveling from one end of the location to another.

However, in small ways the game is very different from its predecessors. For example, locations have become much more closed and claustrophobic. But there are quiet moments in the camps, where it’s fashionable to just run around and listen to NPC dialogues. The skill system has also undergone dramatic changes. Development points are now awarded for completing additional tasks. The player is free to independently distribute them between the characters, acquiring only the skills he needs.
