It is a local multiplayer shooter, where up to 4 gamers with a screen separation can play at the same time. Players can confront each other, or act as a team against bots (Ocupation, Capture the Floppy and Hold Your Death). Management is carried out from the controller or keyboard and mouse. There is no single -user campaign.

Before the match, the character is selected and clothes, weapons (from boomerangs and pistols to rifles and power guns) are not selected. There is no division into classes. The main task in the battle is to kill enemies and stay alive, collect supplies and resources, find collection objects and defeat the boss. There is no mini map displaying the terrain, only in the upper left corner is a black circle, where allies and opponents are depicted with blue and black dots, respectively.

The locations in Dark Data are quite monotonous, the battles are held both in the open area and in the premises. Moreover, in most rooms the lighting is weak, and at night at night. Buildings inside are gray and inconspicuous, with concrete walls and stone or wooden floors. During the battle, the dynamic rock soundtrack plays, which fits perfectly into the general madness, what is going on on the screen.
