Action Deep Rock Galactic takes place in a future where dwarves make their fortunes and gain fame by mining resources on numerous planets for profit-obsessed companies. Players will have to transform into a character of one of 4 classes – scout, engineer, shooter or driller, and the main task here is to be sent to the alien world of Hoxxes IV in search of minerals. After a short tutorial, the gamer finds himself on a huge space station, which acts as the center of the game. There are plenty of different screens and menus to dabble in, and even an Abyss Bar with stat-boosting beers. The first tutorial introduces you to the different game modes and biomes. There's also a helpful miner's guide in the main menu.

Deep Rock Galactic can be played either alone or in co-op. In single player play, you can use the AI-controlled BOSCO bot, giving him orders using a hand scanner. All underground environments are procedurally generated, and the more complex the cave (as indicated in the mission UI), the more likely it is that movement will be hampered by the environment. Each of the classes is endowed with a unique set of tools that helps you navigate through more dangerous locations.

The Scout has an infinite use of the grapple gun on a short cooldown, which allows it to cross massive chasms or hard-to-reach minerals. The shooter can use grapples, which the team can use to cross gaps. The driller has giant drills that can make the path easier. The Engineer has a platform gun that can be used to reach hard-to-reach minerals or cover dangerous holes underground.
