Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir is a remake of an old console game from the 80s. The original was never released outside of Japan. A few decades later, a reimagining was released, available to gamers around the world and translated into other languages. This is the first part of a duology, and therefore to understand the plot it is not necessary to first get acquainted with the second video game. The story tells about a guy whose name the player himself comes up with before starting the game. The protagonist works as a detective at the Utsugi Detective Agency. He is helped by an assistant named Ayumi. The plot begins with amnesia. While completing a mission, the hero falls off a cliff and loses his memory. Having recovered, he returns to the investigation, including in the hope of regaining his memories. He is tasked with finding out the situation in the Ayashiro family, where under strange circumstances the head of a wealthy family dies and the main heir disappears.

Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir is a detective visual novel with 2D hand-drawn graphics inspired by anime. Unlike other representatives of the genre, there are no routes at all. The developers specifically abandoned them in order to better develop the narrative. The same person was in charge of the script for the original video game and its new version: Yoshio Sakamoto. The second difference is the presence of quest elements. The user here not only reads a large amount of text. The user can change locations, search for active objects, call NPCs and show them objects, select lines in dialogues and set topics for conversations, open something, and so on. A list of possible actions is displayed in the corner of the screen.
