Action Far Cry occurs among tropical islands in the South Pacific. The game is based on real weapons and physics, so a strategic approach is recommended. Gamers will have to reincarnate as Jack Carver, a former member of the Ocean Patrol who left for inexplicable reasons. Now he works on his boat, organizing the ferrying of passengers and cargo around the islands. However, when a job escorting a journalist to an uncharted island ends unexpectedly, Jack discovers some very disturbing events and is soon forced into a fierce fight for his own life.

In Far Cry, the plot depends on a two-way video call, with a mysterious ally named Doyle on the other end constantly supplying the character with information and goals. The levels are designed almost like a theme park: there might be a choke point or two here and there, but there are routes from one point to another, and it's often possible to bypass entire groups of opponents. It's easy to get lost here, but the compass points to the next target, and the “invisible meter” will help track if the enemy soon notices something is wrong. There are excellent binoculars that highlight enemies and even allow you to listen to their conversations.

The enemy artificial intelligence is quite smart: if the enemies are visible, then they also see the hero, heading towards him, bringing friends or raising the alarm. Rivals can even get into cars and chase Carver. Some of the creatures he encounters will often jump right at him, so gamers need to be on their guard. Overall the AI ​​provides a nice ebb and flow to the combat and adds tension to the game. Besides the frustration of sudden death and regular reboots, there are a few other things that get in the way of the fun. Some vehicles (like boats) handle just fine. However, try driving a jeep through the jungle – in first-person view it's hard to see where to go, and trees can block third-person view.
