Gameplay Forge of Freedom: The American Civil War is divided into 2 parts: strategy and tactical levels. In a wargame, the user controls the state, mainly controlling armies and military force. The battle map is generated procedurally, designing random terrain that influences positioning and additional elements. Before the start of the session, you will need to choose 1 of 2 factions, the Union and the Confederation.

The campaign map covers a vast area with roads running between Texas, Florida, Minnesota and Maine. During battle, the environment creates hexes where warriors and elements of the environment are located. The player controls brigades with many units in each. Each group is subject to personalization, improvement, and other interactions, which helps create tactics and customize the appropriate playstyle.

The gamer can buy weapons and improve the attributes of brigades as their level increases. There are such types of troops as snipers, zouaves, scouts, cavalry and others. Over 1,000 Civil War generals are available to control. In the match, the user will have to monitor his economic component. Resources and currency are required to purchase equipment or increase military strength. There are no scenarios in the game starting in 1861 or after. Many events and generals are created based on historical information.
