Platformer Ghoulboy – Dark Sword of Goblin takes the player to a magical underground kingdom where they will explore cities, find treasures and fight terrifying monsters. The graphics are presented in a two-dimensional retro style with minimal visual effects. The gameplay focuses on constant battles with unique enemies. On the way, the protagonist will meet bosses whose weak points will need to be identified.

As the game progresses, the main character acquires new items, increases his level, and upgrades his abilities. This allows him to become stronger and fight stronger opponents. The central character throws a magic spear at certain points on the location to create additional platforms. This mechanic is necessary to overcome obstacles or create secondary areas for movement.

Gamepad and controller controls are supported. The gamer will meet 4 powerful bosses, each of them needs to identify weak points and learn a set of moves through practice in order to dodge attacks. 2 throwing weapons have different parameters and features, both combat and for overcoming the difficulties of the terrain. There are 3 types of weapons, such as a mace, a large and small sword. Weapons deal different damage and have a certain attack radius.
