Game process Hexcells similar to the Minesweeper project. Puzzles take the user to a location where there are many consecutive and nearby hexagonal orange tiles. Each cell hides a black or blue figure underneath. The player cannot know in advance what exactly is located under the object. If the gamer thinks that a black tile is hidden, then he needs to press RMB, if it is blue, then LMB.

The goal in each task is to find all the blue hexagons while missing the fewest number of times. Mistakes do not result in defeat, but a “record” counter accumulates. The fewer points for mistakes, the better the task was completed. The user has many ways to find out what is under a certain object. Additional cells containing numbers, hyphens or curly braces are preset at the level.

Hexcells features 36 sequential levels. Endless mode procedurally creates a puzzle with the selected number of cells. The fewer there are, the easier it is to get to the end without errors. The art style is minimalist and has calm music playing in the background. The contrast is made between the orange and blue tiles. The user can rely on hyphens and curly braces to indicate that adjacent tiles can be connected and be exactly the same.
