Hyrule Warriors is an attempt to cross two different universes. Namely The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors. The project took the lore and setting from the first franchise, and borrowed the gameplay from the second. This spin-off takes place outside of the official timeline of the titles. The story takes place in an alternate version of Hyrule, where the sorceress Siya wants to revive Ganandorf, whose soul has been split into pieces. Link, Zelda and other characters try to stop the villainess. There are about 30 varieties of playable heroes and heroines. They differ in weapons (there are swords, crossbows, magic), fighting style, tempo of the fight, and so on. Some fighters carry multiple weapons. And individual warriors can summon assistants and use transformation spells. Fighters can be upgraded. They are also allowed to improve their equipment. In the game you can find loot and craft items.

The project has an alternative name – Zelda Warriors. The title belongs to the Musou genre. This is the Japanese take on slasher films. In such games, a character alone or with the support of several allies destroys dozens and hundreds of enemies with almost one blow, captures important points, subjugates forts, defends the main base and engages in fights with mini-bosses (usually enemy generals). When meeting strengthened opponents, you have to dodge their attacks and counterattack in time. Combat missions often change during battles, making the gameplay dynamic and intense. The partners are controlled by artificial intelligence. You can switch between team members. Missions can be replayed to farm resources. In addition to the story campaign, there is a free mode.
