Insurgency has no plot, and all that happens here are battles between groups of fighters on designated maps. The parties to the conflict are Iraqi rebels and soldiers of the US private military army. The maximum number of players on one team can be 16 people. Particular emphasis is placed on realism, since to destroy the enemy it is enough to fire 2-3 bullets. Additionally, the arcade sight is missing by default, so hip-firing will be ineffective.

Insurgency mechanics involve peeking from behind cover, running, and using tackles. In combat conditions, this can be effective, since opponents are very difficult to notice, and in order not to come under fire, it is better to stay in cover as long as necessary. The cards themselves encourage you to take different positions in each subsequent round, trying to outwit your opponent. The setting of the locations is different – from multi-story buildings to small settlements or a destroyed city in the desert, each subsequent map will not be similar to the previous one. The presence of several modes poses different tasks for players, ranging from controlling the territory or destroying points with weapons to escorting important people. There are also cooperative tasks that involve working as a team to confront artificial intelligence. The variety of weapons is also impressive, and the ability to use 40 different barrels allows you to choose the arsenal that fully suits your gaming style.
