Into the Breach shows what large-scale battles can really be like. Here, the player takes control of one of the huge robots, whose main task is to destroy the same huge kaiju monsters. Humanity is under threat of destruction due to the invasion of these creatures, so their elimination becomes a priority. In addition, the feature of the project is the ability to travel through time, ending up in different periods. Due to this, the characters consistently fight off different regions of the planet.

The gameplay of Into the Breach itself is based on tactical battles. They, in turn, take place on previously prepared cells, divided into cells (8×8). Each battle takes place in a new area, which in turn are located in different climatic zones. In addition to empty space, the cells contain various objects (residential buildings, power plants, etc.) that should not be damaged during battles. Using free cells, the user needs to position robots and weapons in such a way as to achieve optimal formation when attacking creatures. Battles take place in a step-by-step mode, and the gamer has the opportunity not to wait for the end of the turn, but simply press the appropriate key after performing the necessary actions. Victory can be achieved by destroying all enemy units, or by holding out for 5 turns without allowing the destruction of power grid stations. Moreover, even if the battle is lost, one of the robot pilots can go back in time and, having won the battle there, save humanity in the allotted period. This is how the replayability of the project is arranged. As you progress through story missions, you can gain access to improved equipment, as well as weapons that can cause devastating damage even to large creatures.
