KeeperRL opens up the opportunity for the user to feel like a dark lord who is engaged in the construction and development of his own underground kingdom. Black magic, which the protagonist tirelessly studies, helps to increase strength by leaps and bounds. The constantly growing army of like-minded minions plays a significant role. The soldiers obey the orders of the main character and participate in the exploration of the surrounding surface world, the robbery and destruction of settlements, and the massacre of civilian local residents. In addition to the guardian of the underground kingdom, the player can choose as a character a traveler who accidentally wandered into the kingdom underground.

Construction in KeeperRL is carried out constantly and methodically. The settlement goes deeper into the mountain, expanding with rooms and ornate corridors. To prevent curious strangers from sneaking into places where they shouldn’t be, special traps will have to be installed. Loyal subjects are always guarding the security of their territories, honing their combat skills and creating effective armor and weapons. It is impossible not to note the use of technologies, including magic, alchemy, and mutations of fauna.

The game world corresponds to the real one in many aspects. Living creatures use items, including scrolls with magic formulas and potions. They provide the opportunity to destroy enemy fighters, witches and even dragons in a variety of ways, from melee weapons to the use of deadly poisons. But it is important to remember that all products must be handled very carefully. For example, careless handling of fire can lead to a large-scale fire with the destruction of forests.
