Main character Last Epoch travels through time, descends into deadly dungeons and explores the world of Ettera's past. Along the way, he will encounter angry deities, hidden places on the planet, as well as dark empires. The central character wants to find a way to save time and space from the impending Void.

The world of Ettera is inhabited by multiple factions, and there are hundreds of secrets located throughout the area. The protagonist is able to appear in different time periods to change the fate of the world. Battling obstacles and dark creatures, he sets Ettera on a new path. The player will use an extensive arsenal of magical weapons. Found materials and ingredients will help improve items, giving them powerful and unique sets of effects. The loot system is randomized and enemies drop random items.

Locations, enemies and loot are procedurally generated. The adventure begins with the character's base class. As he progresses, he earns experience that allows him to level up 15+ master classes. This will change the style of play and open up access to new skills. Each active ability has its own add-on tree. The hero has 100+ upgradeable branches with multiple minor settings and upgrades.
