The essence of the gameplay is as follows. People find themselves in a location where a demon lives. They need to find important objects and use them in the right way to perform the ritual. Then a weapon will appear with which they need to destroy the monster pursuing them. Before receiving it, you will have to hide or run away from the antagonist and his henchmen.

Malum has high replayability due to several features. Firstly, there is a variety of cards. There is a psychiatric hospital, an abandoned Soviet-era bunker, a gloomy sewer and an old mansion. Secondly, there is procedural generation and The Procedural Horror Director. This artificial intelligence randomly changes the location of things, adjusts the behavior of enemies, and otherwise makes sure that matches differ from each other. Thirdly, in the video game there are 4 different demons: a witch, a Soviet butcher, a maniac in a bunny suit and a stripper turned into a zombie leech. Each adversary requires an individual approach. They all differ in their habits: one is afraid of light, another does not make noise, the third knows how to stun his victims, and so on.
