Such mercenaries are indispensable in achieving goals. Investigating the mysterious murders that occur in the slums, the hero learns many secrets that could cost him his life. With the support of the other runners, he needs not only to learn how to use advanced technologies, but also to become a magician.

The combat system in Shadowrun Returns consists of tactical battles, the outcome of which depends on the player's actions. There are several options for available moves; when making them, the hero must remain in the shadows, invisible to enemies. After which, having found a good shelter, you can cut everyone off using edged weapons, or fry your opponents with fireballs. In addition, there is the opportunity to get a partner, which will help in completing particularly difficult tasks.

Leveling up a character occurs by gaining experience. You can develop towards magical skills, combat ones, using katanas, swords or fist weapons. Or become a genius in the field of technology, with the ability to upload consciousness into a combat drone and kill every enemy with it. There are 5 races to choose from with partial customization. NPCs are alive and have meaningful dialogues. They give tasks or talk about mysterious things that happen at the location.
