Spyro: A Hero's Tail takes users into an adventure platformer with the iconic purple dragon Spyro and his faithful companions. Their mission? None other than saving the Dragon Kingdoms from the clutches of the treacherous Red, a once respected dragon elder turned power-hungry villain. Red's villainous deeds, including the scattering of dark gems throughout the realm, have marred the once pristine landscapes, giving rise to dangerous creatures and twisted flora.

The hero sets out on a campaign to destroy these dark gems, cleanse the kingdom of their harmful influence and restore it to its natural splendor. Throughout his odyssey, Spyro forms an alliance with colorful characters: Sparx the dragonfly, Hunter the cheetah, Sergeant Bird the penguin, and Blink the mole, each with unique abilities to aid in the fight against evil. In addition, Spyro gains invaluable new skills from the remaining dragon elders, ranging from electrifying breath attacks to aquatic agility and defensive maneuvers.

The title boasts a variety of kingdoms, each of which has its own theme and many challenges for users to conquer. On his crusade, the hero faces a variety of opponents – from treacherous terrain to such epic bosses as Gnasty Gnork, Ineptune and the evil Red himself. In addition, Spyro: A Hero's Tail features exciting mini-games and side quests that add welcome variety and fun to the gameplay.
