State of Decay 2 tells about the events taking place during a zombie apocalypse in a city in the southern United States. A group of people who managed not to become infected with a deadly virus try to stick together and move through open areas, fighting off crowds of the dead and helping other survivors. In general, there is no plot, and the gamer can independently determine the sequence of actions. The main task will be the destruction of the so-called “plague hearts”, which contain clusters of infection. More powerful zombies always live next to them, so clearing should be done extremely carefully. The project has several key mechanics on which the entire gameplay is based.

Key mechanics in State of Decay 2:

• Moving around the world – the player has access to transport, which can be used to cover the distance between cities and settlements. Stealth movement allows you to bypass a group of enemies without attracting attention.
• Combat system – in addition to firearms and the use of improvised objects (mounts, bats, etc.), you can finish off the dead by trampling them with your feet or even knocking them over while driving a car.
• Tasks – despite the lack of a plot, some tasks still need to be completed. For example, build a weapons room or go to a remote location to free survivors.
• Gathering – almost every item found in a location can be useful in the future. Provisions, medicines, ammunition, weapons and other things go into the inventory, after which the user decides what to do with them.

At the very beginning, after choosing a character, the game offers you to undergo training, during which each of the mechanics is revealed. It cannot be missed, since in it survivors are selected from the reservation in order to subsequently find themselves on the main map. It is also important to understand that ignoring or attacking requests for help from other groups will cause them to become hostile. There is also a leveling system, and thanks to the acquired skills, you can speed up some basic processes or increase efficiency in battle.
