During this era, the Roman Catholic Church had enormous authority. As we know from history textbooks, she held not only religious power, but was also responsible for some secular affairs, especially judicial practice.

The plot of The Abbey: Murder Mystery was inspired by the historical murder mystery novel The Name of the Rose. When a monk named Leonardo from the provincial Spanish town of Toledo is ordered to take young Bruno to the Abbey of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad to study with the local monks, “a dark, dastardly murder prevents the landing of this kid.” Having learned about a series of mysterious deaths, the Vatican orders one of the inquisitors to be sent to the abbey to investigate what happened. Approaching the crime scene, the main character also experiences attempts on his life. From now on we need to put everything in its place.

In terms of appearance, the graphics are made in an animated style. All characters were drawn by hand. A significant portion of the gameplay is occupied by the interrogation of monks from the local abbey. The clues in the information and the evidence found must be logically combined to find out who the killer is.
