The Escapists is a humorous prisoner simulator with adventure, RPG and puzzle elements. The goal of the game is to escape from prison. There are 8 places of imprisonment, which differ in rules, severity of detention, daily routine and level of complexity. There is an editor that allows you to customize the appearance of the character and come up with a name for him, as well as create your own map and share it with other users.

There is no full storyline in The Escapists. The user simply controls one of the criminals who wants to be released as soon as possible. After training, the gamer is left to his own devices in the sandbox. Each of the prisons is a semblance of an open world. An indie title gives you freedom of action. The player decides how he will escape from the penitentiary. You can complete the task in different ways. For example: dressing up in a security guard's uniform and impersonating staff, provoking a riot and taking advantage of an emergency, digging a tunnel under a wall, and stuff like that.

However, implementing the plans will not be easy. Security regularly conducts roll calls and conducts searches of cells. To prevent prohibited items from being taken away, you need to hide them in the ventilation, hollow out a hole in the wall and put everything in it, or dig a hiding place in the floor. The game has 185 items and the ability to craft. There is also pumping. Playing sports, reading literature and other activities improve characteristics: strength, intelligence, speed, endurance. While preparing your escape, you will need to follow a daily routine so as not to attract unnecessary attention from the guards, and interact with other prisoners. Some of them issue orders.
