Don't think that in Ultimate General: Civil War the main goal will always be winning every single battle. That is, if a player is defeated in one place, this does not mean that the campaign will come to an end. Events will develop further, it’s just that the outcome of the previous event will be reflected in subsequent clashes. For example, having defeated the confederation army, in the next clash it will have noticeably fewer resources than it could have had, because that battle provoked the headquarters to spend additional money from reserves. As for unit control, it is divided into several levels. You can control each individual fighter, or set a global task by sending troops to positions. Infantry, artillery, cavalry and rifle battalions have different combat potential, which depends on the weapons and tactical capabilities in specific locations. Before going to the battlefield, it is necessary to form all the units in advance and calculate their actions for future clashes. Each fighter must be maintained, spending resources on him depending on his level of training. Thanks to the promotion system, each warrior can receive a higher rank. The higher the officer's rank, the larger his personnel will be. In addition, he will gain access to new abilities, including political influence.

As for artificial intelligence, here it is strong and will become a worthy opponent. He can use the features of the terrain to gain an advantage, sit on the defensive, or sharply counterattack, catching the player by surprise. For example, if in the next battle a gamer needs to cross a river to enter the city and take an advantageous position, the opponent will defend himself by setting up strong points and firing from cannons. Therefore, you will have to try hard to outwit your opponent and find yourself in a more advantageous position.
