Story Valiant Hearts: The Great War begins in 1914, when Archduke Franz Ferdinand came under attack. After his death, Russia receives threats from Germany, and then the war begins. Realizing that many casualties are inevitable, France begins to deport German citizens en masse. Karl, having found a wife and already received a child, was sent to his homeland not of his own free will.

Karl ends up in the army of his country and goes to the front. Soon Emil, his wife's father, goes to serve against Germany. Emil's detachment was destroyed, and he himself was captured. Baron Von Dorff uses multiple types of modern weapons to eliminate his opponents. Karl falls under the command of Dorff, after which he learns that his father-in-law is being held captive. The base is attacked by British troops, after which the main character flees, and Emil, in the confusion, manages to get out of captivity.

The gameplay is presented in the form of an animated comic that tells the story of how the Valiant Hearts participated in the war. The user controls several heroes, observing lives and battles from different points of view. Along the way you will have to solve puzzles and make your way through deadly enemy lines. A young German soldier, not wanting to participate in the war, decides to find love and help people.
