Wildermyth is not so much a single-player adventure RPG as it is a series of stories about exploring The Yondering Lands, creating a group, and watching its legend as characters age, change, form relationships, and eventually retire. The choices players make determine everything from the relationship status of the characters to the type of scars they receive, including the loss of limbs as a result of poor decisions in tactical turn-based battles. Time passes, and whether gamers are exploring a region, repairing a captured fortress, or training a new party member, they can always divide the group to multitask across the country.

Wildermyth is a lively and enjoyable journey into a new land, with slick tactical combat and unique magic systems that offer good versatility. Characters are procedurally generated. They have their own backstory, personality and appearance. This adds more depth to the interactions between them and the narrative events. Here you can read everyone's background on a special screen. As you progress through the game, the story expands.

The characters start with one of 3 main classes: Warrior, Hunter, Mystic. They are able to level up and gain active or passive skills. As they progress, they will receive upgrades for their armor and weapons. Materials obtained from clearing areas are used to create better equipment. Equipment obtained and crafted is displayed on paper characters. Once the area has been scouted, the heroes can undertake an assault mission to gain control. Each fighter has 1 turn, and then the enemy attacks.
