Wintertwined is a hybrid of horror and adventure. An indie project made by the efforts of one person using the RPG Maker engine. It has 2D pixel art graphics. The camera is located on the side. The video game uses music from composer Harumi Makoto. In the game you need to explore locations, solve riddles and participate in QTE moments where you need to quickly press the buttons that appear on the screen in the correct order. When trying to solve some puzzles, the first-person view is briefly activated. Puzzles have 3 difficulty levels. The plot is presented through cut scenes, pictures with monologues of the protagonist and episodes with dialogues. There is no voice acting here. All information, including conversations between characters, is presented in text form.

The Wintertwined project stands out for its unusual setting. The indie game takes place during the onset of a new ice age. The plot tells about a shy teenager named Winter (he is the one who will be controlled) and his guardian, whose name is Giles. These people travel across the country on a snowmobile in hopes of escaping the snow apocalypse. Along the way, they steal food and other useful items from closed roadside shops. One day the heroes find themselves in a snowstorm and decide to sit out the cold night in the first hut they come across. When they go inside, they soon realize that breaking into this house was the worst idea of ​​their lives. They will have to work together to survive this trap.
